General traits

  • Weak STM

  • Problems dealing with information in sequence

  • Difficulty extracting sense from written material 

  • Difficulty recalling right word when speaking and substituting words

 

Many dyslexics are good at lateral thinking and solving problems and have intuitive grasp of how things work 

They are renowned for their display of originality and creativity 

Some reading techniques adopted by dyslexics: 

  • Tracking along screen with finger 

  • Use text reading software and headphones 

  • Use speech recognition

Spatial dyslexia 

  • Lacks sense of direction 

  • Navigation problems 

  • Orientation problems 

  • Possible link with migraine

Word and Number Dyslexia 

  • Difficulty naming word but knows meaning 

  • Difficulty working out meaning 

  • Jumbles letters  or numbers up 

  • Low STM memory span

 

Dyscalculia - a mathematical disability in which a person has unusual difficulty solving arithmetic problems and grasping math concepts.

Dysgraphia - a neurological-based writing disability in which a person finds it hard to form letters or write within a defined space.
